In partnership with families, CPQCC has embarked on an
initiative to measure family-centered care in the NICU. Our work on disparities
in the NICU, supported by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), revealed
gaps in family centered care. Addressing these gaps through measurement and
feedback will ensure that NICU families, including marginalized families are
better supported in caring for their infant.
We engaged a national panel of experts and family
representatives in a Delphi experiment and identified key measures of family
centered care. These measures were designed to be extracted primarily from the
electronic health record to reduce measurement burden. We are currently pilot
testing these measures and we welcome your participation in this effort.
Measures being considered for this pilot test are:
·Days from NICU admission to first skin-to-skin
care
·Days from NICU admission to first social worker
contact
·Hours from birth to priming with oral colostrum.
Please let us know if you would like to participate in this
pilot.
